KAIVAN ASKARI · EXECUTIVE CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Great creative work is not an accident. It is the result of intentional leadership.

After 15 years leading creative inside a $5B global enterprise, I have learned that the most important work a creative director does is rarely the visible portfolio. It is the standard you set, the culture you build, the questions you ask before the work begins, and the trust you earn in rooms where creative leaders are not always expected. This page is about how I lead, not just what I make.

LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY

01

Lead by doing, not just directing

I stay close enough to the work to understand the details, protect the standard, and guide the team with credibility.

02

Translate strategy into vision

I turn business direction into creative direction that teams can understand, execute, and believe in.

03

Build people, not just work

I invest in people first because stronger teams create stronger work, better judgment, and better outcomes.

04

Make the invisible visible

I help leaders see the strategy, standards, and decisions behind the work so creative becomes easier to trust.

HOW I WORK

01Start with the business problem, not the brief

Before any creative begins, I want to understand what success looks like for the business — not just the marketing team. What is the company trying to prove, change, or achieve? That question shapes everything.

02Define the creative vision before the execution

I establish the creative direction — the idea, the tone, the visual language — before anyone starts designing. This gives the team a clear target so their energy goes into elevating the work, not guessing what I want.

03Create conditions for the team to do their best work

My job in execution is to remove obstacles, protect the work from scope creep, give fast and honest feedback, and make sure the team has everything they need. I run tight creative reviews, not long ones.

04Sell it with the same conviction it was made with

I present creative to C-suites and executive stakeholders regularly. I do not apologize for the work or over-explain it. I tell the story of why it is right, connect it to the business objective, and hold the line when the feedback is wrong.

LEADERSHIP OUTCOMES

What my leadership changes.

Creative leadership should not only produce better work. It should create clearer decisions, stronger teams, faster alignment, and a creative system the business can trust.

01

Clearer brand decisions

I help teams move from opinion-based feedback to decisions grounded in strategy, audience, hierarchy, and business purpose.

02

Stronger creative standards

I build systems, guidelines, and expectations that help creative work stay consistent without making it feel rigid or generic.

03

Faster executive alignment

I translate complex business strategy into clear creative direction that leaders can understand, support, and communicate.

04

More confident teams

I create conditions where designers, writers, producers, and partners know the standard, understand the purpose, and can do their best work.

05

Less agency dependency

I build in-house capability, reusable systems, and smarter partner models that improve quality while reducing unnecessary external spend.

06

Creative work tied to business goals

I connect creative decisions to revenue, adoption, cost avoidance, culture, customer understanding, and long-term brand trust.

THE TEAM

I built and led a multi-disciplinary creative team across the U.S. and India — designers, motion designers, video producers, and photographers — inside a global industrial company without a design-led culture or an obvious talent pipeline.

I built the culture first, and the talent followed. Every person on my team knows the standard, owns their craft, and understands how their work connects to the business. That does not happen by accident. It happens because I invest in it every day.

6–10

Core creative professionals led directly

Led internal teams, global partners, vendors, contractors, and cross-functional stakeholders across enterprise creative programs.

Years building creative culture

If you need a creative leader who can connect brand, business strategy, executive storytelling, and execution at scale, that is the work I do.
